Erykah Badu and The Alchemist at Forest Hills Stadium on September 18th

Erykah Badu and The Alchemist head out on the LIVE Tour across North America this September, stopping in NYC with a show at Forest Hills Stadium on September 18th with support from De La Soul.

Erykah Badu grew up in Dallas, Texas and rose to prominence in the late 1990s with the release of her 1997 debut album, Baduizm, which placed her at the forefront of the neo-soul movement. With a voice compared to jazz legend Billie Holiday and a deeply funky rhythm section (featuring members of iconic hip-hop band The Roots), Badu began to embody a cultural shift towards Afrocentrism, creating a throughline of Black musical styles from ‘30s blues and ‘70s jazz to soul on the precipice of a new millenium. Badu took on a down-to-earth spirituality on her first album, saying, “Baduizm was designed to get you high. Baduizm is lighting my incense, lighting my candles, knowing the creator, knowing myself.” Badu’s otherworldly sound led to her immediate cultural and critical success, winning her Grammys for Best R&B Album and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for Baduizm and its lead single, “On & On” respectively. Badu continued with a string of highly successful albums, notably 2000’s Mama’s Gun and 2008 and 2010’s New Amerykah Pt. 1 (4th World War) and New Amerykah, Pt. 2: Return of the Ankh, landing impressive spots on the charts and solidifying her status as “the queen of neo-soul.”

In 2025, she stated that she had been working on her first studio album in fifteen years with legendary producer, rapper, and DJ, The Alchemist. The Alchemist has cultivated a reputation for being one of hip-hop’s most respected and prolific producers with over 500 producer credits throughout his three-decade career, collaborating with artists like Mobb Deep, Freddie Gibbs, Griselda, and Earl Sweatshirt. Also a member of hip-hop groups The Whooliganz, Gangrene, and Step Brothers, he has released multiple critically acclaimed albums of his own and is known for his gritty yet soulful sound. Badu and The Alchemist’s collaborative album, Abi & Alan, was scheduled to be released in August 2025 but was pushed back indefinitely after they dropped the lead single, “Next To You.” Only time will tell if and when they release the album and whether they preview any of the new songs on their upcoming tour.
