Photo Review: Tortoise at Knockdown Center

What’s better than a dueling piano bar? Dueling drums at a Tortoise concert. Tortoise delivered to a packed crowd at Knockdown Center in Queens, New York on June 25, 2026. By trading instruments with one another and occasionally adding new ones throughout the set, the crowd was excited to see what each song had in store for them. At a magnificent outdoor venue on a beautiful night, this show was a very enjoyable experience.

I’ll describe it as a cool collection of sounds that come together to form something beautiful, performed by a group of exceptionally talented musicians. And who needs to wear shoes on stage anyway? The captivating aesthetics, voices and rhythms had everyone in the crowd feeling that live show feeling. Realizing you’re dancing around with your eyes closed, taking it all in; to the occasional scream, L’Rain brings whimsical emotions to the surface.
