The Strokes are back! This past week, the indie rock band kicked off a global tour for their new album Reality Awaits and will be playing a massive hometown show at Flushing Meadows Corona Park on October 2nd with support from Beach House, TV on the Radio, and Fcukers.

The Strokes were formed in Manhattan in 1998 by Dwight School classmates Julian Casablancas (vocals), Nick Valensi (guitar), and Fabrizio Moretti (drums), who soon after added guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. and bassist Nikolai Fraiture to their ranks. Practicing and performing tirelessly for the following two years paid off with the release of their first EP The Modern Age in 2001 grabbing the attention of countless major labels with RCA eventually signing them. The Strokes’ success continued with the release of their first album Is This It later that year which featured the songs “The Modern Age,” “Last Nite,” and “Barely Legal” from the EP and received widespread acclaim from fans and critics alike, eventually achieving platinum status and appearing on numerous greatest albums lists including Rolling Stone and NME

The band continued to release music throughout the 2000s, spearheading the garage rock and post-punk revivals and shaping the indie sound for years to come, influencing bands like Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, and Franz Ferdinand. In 2020, The Strokes teamed up with legendary producer Rick Rubin to release their first album in seven years, The New Abnormal, which won them a grammy for Best Rock Album in 2021 and solidified their place as one of the most important indie rock bands of the 21st century. Now, six years later and once again joined by Rubin, The Strokes are set to release their latest album, Reality Awaits, on July 24th. If The New Abnormal was any indication, this new album will surely be worth the wait.
