The Breeders at The Rooftop at Pier 17 on June 24th

Alternative rock band, The Breeders, will be performing at The Rooftop at Pier 17 on June 24th with support from Violet Grohl.

The Breeders was formed in 1989 in Dayton, Ohio by Kim Deal and Tanya Donelly of the legendary rock bands the Pixies and Throwing Muses respectively. They released their first album, Pod, in 1990 with bassist Josephine Wiggs and drummer Britt Walford, which Kurt Cobain cited of his favorite albums ever and one of the 50 albums he thought were most influential to Nirvana’s sound in his journal in 1993. He praised Kim Deal and the band saying, “The main reason I like [the Breeders] is for their songs, for the way they structure them, which is totally unique, very atmospheric. I wish Kim was allowed to write more songs for the Pixies, because ‘Gigantic’ is the best Pixies song, and Kim wrote it.” After the Pixies broke up in 1993 and Donnely left to focus on her solo career, the band expanded to their current line-up adding lead guitarist and sister Kelley Deal and drummer Jim Macpherson. They then released their breakout album, Last Splash, which went certified platinum and included the hit single “Cannonball.”

Soon after, the band went through a hiatus and some lineup changes before announcing in 2013 that the classic lineup would be returning with a series of 20th anniversary tours for Last Splash. Now three years after the same iconic album’s 30th anniversary, The Breeders hit the road again for a summer tour culminating in an opening performance for My Chemical Romance on their massive Welcome to the Black Parade tour. Known for an incredibly energetic but beautifully atmospheric live show, The Breeders’ NYC concert promises to feature an electric performance with hits from their two iconic albums along with unreleased songs and much more.
