A Perfect Circle have returned with their first new piece of music in 8 years, a song entitled “Starless.” The rock supergroup shocked fans today by dropping the surprise new single ahead of their upcoming tour.
The song begins with a passionate electric guitar and drum intro, followed by intense vocals with lyrics about power and corruption. The song continues with lines questioning if reason and morality can prevail against the current state of lies and madness. The final verse ends with a defeatist tone, before ending on the chorus, which repeatedly questions, “how did I get here?” and “how do I find my way?”
The official visualizer released with the song adds to the striking and desperate nature of the single. It begins by displaying a dark figure with nearly all his features obscured, high-contrast black-and-white videos flashing behind him as the camera slowly edges closer. The visualizer goes on to display a variety of black-and-white videos, most of them depicting still figures surrounded by flames or crowds gathered near large blazing fires.
