Album Review: Malefic – Impermanence

Band brings face-smacking death metal on Impermanence.

Georgia’s death metal band Malefic has released their newest record, Impermanence and as a whole, everything is fantastic by how each tracks guitar riffs remain loud and aggressive as the vocalist uses anger through high-pitched growls. Also, the drumming playing smacks the background with blast beats that match the epic guitar solos. This record is filled with face-smacking sound of cylinders that blends in with the intense vocals performance, while  the aggressive guitar playing dazzles through each song with endless havoc and energy.

Kicking things off is “Blood of the Throne.” What is amazing about this number is how it opens with blistering guitar riffs before the deep screaming vocals kick in. The fast paced drum playing follows in pursuit with thunderous beats that contributes a furious feeling of  rage as the vocalist spits out the dooming lyrics. “Blood of the Throne” can give listeners a feel of how heavy death metal can be when you have all the right elements with the instrumentation and vocals.

“Idiocracy” is another stand out track right from the start. The lovely blend of rhythm between the guitar riffs and the drum playing brings a danceable vibe before the dominant noises takes over the screaming vocals take over. Also, some of the samples are scattered on this number, which are layered beneath the roaring guitars and pulse pounding drums. The music alone gives “Idiocracy” a solid kick of badassery thanks to their musical talent of a band.

“Disembodiment” is by far the most encapsulating track on Impermanence. It begins with light guitar playing along with some cymbal tapping, which create a haunting and dream-like atmosphere that makes the whole composition sound just as creepy. Then within the darkness, the drum beats and guitar riffs become louder and louder with the sounds of the light guitar playing constantly lingering in the background as the vocal performance continues to fill the atmosphere with sheer power. “Disembodiment” is a mighty piece of work that displays the harder side of death metal.

Overall, this album bleeds top-notch death metal because the energy the band brings is good enough to cause people to create a mosh pit. Malefic continues to prove that they have what it takes to keep thriving in the music industry as a powerful death metal band who is not afraid to show off the musical passions through their bombastic instrumentation and vocal performance.
