Live Review: Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit at The Orpheum Theatre

On January 31, 2026, at the classical Orpheum Theatre, the singer Jason Isbell and the band 400 Unit made an
impact on the stage. Delivering impactful and engaging performances to their wonderful fans, as you see their faces smiling
widely and wanting to hear more of their musical pieces. The moment Jason Isbell got onto the stage, the atmosphere became
calm. The audience was fully engaged and attentive, rather than standing up the entire time as the set continued.

Throughout the night, Isbell frequently switched between acoustic and electric, altering the mood and tone for each song. The
majority of his set list had very long guitar riffs that allowed the music to continue to build up naturally and not just go straight
off. Several of these kinds of moments evolved into these riff battles between him and his mates, displaying their chemistry as
the cheers go louder. It never felt excessive despite having instrumental sections longer than their lyrics and instead, it drew
energy from the crowd as it built up.

There were songs that most of the audience would get up from their seats to sing along to the lyrics and would clap to
the rhythm, songs like “Hope the High Road,” “Super 8,” “Alabama Pines” and “Decoration Day.” Some songs were so emotional that the entire room sat down and remained quiet while not interrupting the band during songs like “If We Were Vampires,” “Live
Oak” and “Strawberry Woman.” Isbell was steady and expressive without showing or even having any complications. He had
deliveries with such ease and control, just like his bandmates did with their instruments.

The 400 Unit remained sharp and connected, being able to deliver performance one after another. Contributing their pieces
with precision, able to create music that feels fulfilling without being overwhelming in their songs. Their chemistry became even
clearer when we saw them demonstrating the long instrumental passages; it felt so seamless.

The lighting played a very strong and important role in shaping the experience. Stage changing through multiple shades of
colors such as orange/orange red, yellow/golden, green/blue green, white and so much more. Laser projections were
being used throughout the venue during some moments, adding a cinematic edge without making interruptions or distractions
from the performance itself. Visuals follow the music closely as it amplifies the mood for each of the songs.
The interactions from the audience felt genuine as the fans sang along, clapping to the rhythm and cheers erupting as it
followed through the standout solos. Isbell acknowledged the crowds with his smiles and nods, keeping the connection natural
without having to force them to get up and cheer.

At the end of the night, fans had left satisfied as they had smiles on their faces, buying merchandise and most importantly,
they left with music in their minds and hearts. This kind of moment will never be forgotten by them. Jason Isbell and the 400
Unit have proved that amazing songwriting, skilled musicians and thoughtful productions make up an entertaining and
impactful performance. For the fans out there, if you would like to go to Jason Isbell’s concert, then please do so, as you don’t
want to miss this special experience. It is not too late as he, alongside the 400 Unit, will continue their tour around the U.S. Use
