Album Review: Kittie – Spit XXV

Kittie successfully distributes chaoticness on Spit XXV.

Canadian heavy metal band Kittie was formed in 1996 by guitarist Fallon Bowman and drummer Mercedes Lander, with guitarist and vocalist Morgan Lander and bassist Tanya Candler joining the following year. But  Morgan and Mercedes have remained the band’s sole constant members and back in September, Kiittie released Spit XXV. For those who absolutely enjoy wild, erratic and dynamic music, this album will satisfy their need by how how each track is filled with endless musical madness and in-your-face vocal performance.

The opening track, “Brackish XXV,” welcomes listeners to Kittie’s dark world where the surging guitar playing and fast-paced drum playing smacks the background sharp and edgy sounds that have a mix of heavy metal and hard rock, while the vocal performances dazzles the mind with beautiful harmonies and skilled rap bars. “Brackish XXV” allows people to see the creative side of the band, which is a beautiful thing.

“Charlotte XXV ” is another banger and what shines brightly is the skilled drum playing. Right off the bat, the noise of slick and power drum beats smacks the atmosphere with a heavy rock vibe, while the guitar playing blazes the air with solid riffs that blend in with the catchy drum tempo. Also, the vocal performances are well on on “Charlotte XXV ” because both vocalists bring more energy to the human connection.

“Do You Think I’m a Whore XXV” is a straight up jammer due to how the drum playing is playing on a lower tempo and the guitar playing bring more harmonies. But what steals the whole ditty are the vocal performances that contribute to lingering darkness and insanity. Each vocal growl and shriek gives this composition a double kick of angry badassery that matches the towering theme on “Do You Think I’m a Whore XXV.” With a mix of death and heavy metal, people will be head banging along to this killer tune.

The title track “Spit XXV’ ends things on a high note and this is where Kittie musically shows how strong they are as a band. As a whole, the production is fabulous by how the instrumentation shakes things up with vein-jolting and head-banging sound that bleeds sizzling heavy metal, while the vocal performances bring a death metal vibe through each authoritative and masterful shouting and growling. “Spit XXV” is just another epic number that is filled with piercing creativity.

Although Spit XXV only has four songs, each composition does the in-your-face elements of soul-metal music. Plus, Kittie once again proves they are still hungry to create dynamic music that will blissfully shock people’s minds with unstoppable musical talent.
