Musical growth with a discography to show for it.
Pupil Slicer is a British mathcore band from London, currently signed to Prosthetic Records. Back in ’23, the band released their second album, Blossom, and now, Pupil Slicer is back with Fleshwork. As a whole, the album is fantastic. Each track has skull-crushing instrumentation and powerful vocal performances. Although Blossom was a killer album, Fleshwork kicks things up a with more endless and mind-blow creativity.
Kicking things off is “Heather,” and what makes this ditty sound metal is hearing the vocalist screaming out the lyrics in pure rage. Each deep growl and shout contributes to the endless insanity, while the instrumentation smacks the background with a jamming hard rock vibe that compliments the vocalist’s high pitches. “Heather” is an album opener that express how hungry the band is to share their music.
Another great tune is “Sacrosanct,” and as a whole, the production is a straight up head-banger. Right away, deep and mind-numbing guitar notes and drum beats smack the background with deep and dooming noise, while the vocalist flawlessly growls out the deep lyrics. For those who enjoy listening to loud, thrashing and pulsing music, “Sacrosanct” will satisfy their needs.
“Nomad” is death metal at its finest, thanks to the jarring guitar playing generating fast-paced and heart-shattering notes that contributes to the lingering madness before switching to a heavier metal style. Another great part is hearing the vocalist screaming out the lyrics with pure human emotions that some listeners can relate to. “Nomad” is another reason why Pupil Slicer is still successfully around creating their own musical havoc.
A personal favorite is “While Noise,” and unlike the pervious songs, this composition is a mix of rock and melody. The instrumentation itself brings a softer and harder rock sound. The bass guitar shakes the background with heavy and catchy riffs, while the drum playing stays on a lower musical tempo. Although the instrumentation is light, the vocal performance adds a gentle and chaotic touch of insanity on “While Noise.” The whole production is stunning and hopefully the track will sound just as good live.
Pupil Slicer give their all on Fleshwork and hopefully, their fans will enjoy hearing the music joyfully blasting from their speakers. Plus, this album proves how much the band has grown musically.
