Father John Misty has defied genres as he incorporates indie rock, folk, funk, and more into his music. With a career spanning over twenty years, Josh Tillman has truly defined his legacy. Under the name Father John Misty, he released his sixth studio album, “Mahashmashana.

In November 2024, the album “Mahashmashanaconsists of a total of eight songs; the title track spans nine minutes and twenty seconds, setting fans into a feeling similar to a final act. Fans claim that it sounds like a classic Father John Misty song but still perfectly sets up the album. Pitchfork rated the album 8.3, even claiming how Tillman’s “songwriting might be the best it’s ever been.”

In one such track, “Mental Health,” Tillman criticizes the commodification of the mental health industry focusing on introspective lyrics like, “No one knows you like yourself / You two should speak / In the presence of a licensee.” Over the course of the song, it builds to a climax that elicits feelings of being outpaced by the speed of life.

Both nights feature musician Andy Shauf, who will play in support of Tillman. In the historic Castro Theater, the venue provides a venue where fans will be able to capture a spiritual experience like no other. Tickets can be purchased here
