A sincere reunion that emotionally offered it all.

To celebrate their 20th anniversary of hit album Plans, Death Cab for Cutie toured three cities only (Seattle, Chicago and New York) and played every song off the record, with a few extra songs from their discography thrown in. This five member indie rock band from Washington has captured fans hearts’ for years. Starting strong with ‘Marching Bands of Manhattan’ everyone in the crowd immediately surged forward to get as close as they possibly could. Fans of different ages sang along to all the lyrics to hit songs like “Soul Meets Body” and “Crooked Teeth,” while others cried to “What Sarah Said.” However, everyone did both as lead vocalist Ben Gibbard began to strum the chords to “I Will Follow You into the Dark.” He played through this acoustic cover of a beloved song, and then asked us to song along – and so we did. Not once throughout this entire show did the band fail to deliver a spectacular performance. Even though they were finishing off their tour and subsequently their third night at Brooklyn Paramount, the energy of everyone involved was felt and absorbed. Their lighting design punctuated every note and outro resulting in powerful backlit moments, while their visuals brought back a feeling of nostalgia through all the image melding and lyric displays. Death Cab for Cutie is a band that commands attention every step of the way. Their sea of fans barely held their phones out as everyone submitted to music they’ve loved for years and may have never gotten to hear played live. Here’s to hoping they also enjoyed their 20th anniversary celebration the way many fans did.
