Album Review: Coffin Feeder – Big Trouble

Coffin Feeder brings bombastic music to Big Trouble.

Metal band Coffin Feeder is known for their wild and blistering music. And now, the band has released Big Trouble, and as a whole, each track is filled with heavier musical mayhem that reflects on Coffin Feeder’s strong energy thanks to the pulsing instrumentation and sizzling vocal performances. This album showcases the harder side of the band, which is wonderful because people will have the chance to hear Coffin Feeder’s musically deep and emotionally turbulent side.

“There Will Be Trouble” is a prime example of the chaotic and darkly twisted world that Coffin Feeder creates. Right off the bat, listeners will be welcomed by the band’s fast-paced and chaotic sound, filled with jarring guitar and drum playing, as the vocal performances shriek and grumble out the detailed lyrics.

“If It Bleeds” sounds like a face-smacking, heavy metal anthem, thanks to the dynamic drum playing that produces beats capable of causing some listeners to headbang, while the guitar riffs and screaming vocal tones fill the atmosphere with endless pure rage. Also, the vocal chanting at the very beginning of “If It Bleeds” makes the whole thing feel like was non-stop war zone.

Another vein-jolter is “Obey,” and what shines on this ditty is how the vocal styles are more raw and angrier. Right off the bat, the noise of loud vocal screaming can be heard shaking the background with great threat, and the part is hearing how each vocal pitch brings a strong feeling of insecurity about what is lingering outside of Coffin Feeder’s world.

“H.I.S.S.” is a bit different from the previous compositions due to how the band is playing on a hard rock and heavy metal vibe. Although the tune is musically brief, the drum and guitar playing bring an in-your-face, hard rock and metal style that blends in really well with the solid vocal performances. “H.I.S.S.” is another great example of how versatile the band is.

“The Wrong Arm of the Law” ends Big Trouble on a high note and what really shines is the bass guitar raging havoc in the background. Throughout the whole thing, each bass guitar note brings a thunderous noise that contributes to the endless insanity. Another great part is hearing the lead guitar sizzling the air with non-stop notes that bring the feeling of uncertainty.

Overall, Big Trouble is a record that screams death metal music, and for those who enjoy hearing ear-bleeding tunes, this album will satisfy the need of wanting to hear music loudly blaring from the speakers. Surely, each track will sound just as amazing live, too.
