Post-punk legends Death Cult are making a long-awaited return to U.S. stages this month with two rare and intimate appearances, starting with a highly anticipated performance at The Regency Ballroom in San Francisco on May 14, followed by their debut at Cruel World Festival in Pasadena on May 17.
This marks only the second time Death Cult has played in the U.S., making these shows a once-in-a-generation chance for fans to experience the band’s raw, shamanic energy live.
Formed in 1983 by Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy after the dissolution of Southern Death Cult, Death Cult was the crucible in which their genre-defying sound was forged: a fusion of punk urgency and gothic psychedelia that would later fuel The Cult’s global rise.
Though their time as Death Cult was brief, the impact was seismic. Their early EPs remain cult classics, echoing with the spirit of a band that bridged punk rebellion and post-punk mysticism.
Now, over 40 years later, Astbury and Duffy are revisiting that era with a show that promises both sonic power and historic weight.
