With their second full release, British band Ex-Vöid’s LP, In Love Again, has ventured into new musical terrain. Across ten tracks, the band incorporates elements of power pop, 90s alt-rock, and folk rock, crafting a record that is as refreshingly electric as it is cohesive.

Demonstrating the band’s mastery of integrating diverse influences into their sound, each track embodies a different facet of indie rock history. Listeners can feel the group’s ability to traverse styles while retaining their unique identity. The album opens with “Swansea,” a punchy track that immediately sets the tone with its dynamic combination of guitar-driven energy and the harmonized vocals of McArdle and Williams. This opener effortlessly blends energy and melody, hinting at the band’s roots while signaling their evolution. Meanwhile, their track “In Love Again” explores a dynamic balance, shifting from gently reflective verses to bursts of vibrant energy.

“Pinhead” is a highlight, waving dreamy shoegaze-like textures into its vibrant framework. The song’s layered vocals and lush production balance both atmospheric and assertive. Another standout, “Sara,” dips into grunge influences, delivering raw energy alongside dynamic shifts that echo the work of iconic 90s acts. Both tracks exemplify the band’s ability to draw from varied inspirations while maintaining their distinct identity.

The album’s versatility becomes even more apparent in the track “Strange Insinuation,” which explores darker, more experimental tones. Their closing record, “Outline,” offers a rather striking departure. This largely acoustic track leans into folk influences, with its delicate harmonies and reflective tones gradually building into a power, noise-infused conclusion.

Ex-Vöid’s In Love Again is more than just a genre-spanning collection of songs. It’s a statement of evolution and reinvention, proving the band’s ability to blend influences into a sound that feels entirely their own. This album captures the essence of creative exploration, delivering a listening experience that is both varied and intensely cohesive.
