Finish metal band Korpiklaani, previously known as Shamaani Duo (1993-1997) and Shaman (1997-2003) got their start in 1993 making exclusively metal music. They did not start incorporating folk into their sound until their re-branding in 1997. They re-branded once more in 2003 and officially became the band they are today.
Over 20 members have cycled through the band. The current members consist of Jonne Järvelä on vocals, Kalle “Cane” Savijärvi on guitar, Jarkko Aaltonen on bass, Sami Perttula on accordion, Samuli Mikkonen on drums, and Olli Vänskä on violin. Järvelä is the only original member still performing with the band.
The band re-branded to the name Korpiklaani in 2003 with the release of the album, Spirit of the Forest, which was heavily influenced by the folk persuasion. The combination of metal and folk sets them apart from classic heavy metal and death metal bands.
Since the release of their 2003 album, they have released 12 more studio albums, including their most recent, Rankarumpu (2024). They have also released 24 singles all of which are eclectic and exciting.
