Album Review: Glosser – Angel Dust

Glosser’s Angel Dust is an entrancing dive into the indie pop realm that delivers the perfect combination of infectious dance beats and captivating lyricism. Across the four tracks, the EP showcases a balance between shimmering production and raw emotion, representing Glosser’s reputation for using pop frameworks to explore deeper themes.

With the release of Angel Dust in 2024, a pivotal moment in Glosser’s journey, the duo continues to push creative boundaries with their dynamic arrangements, dreamy vocals, and pulsating rhythms. The EP opens with the track “Angel Dust,” an immediate standout due to its intimate beginning with Riley Fanning’s breathy yet melancholic vocals. This track pulls listeners into the tension between euphoria and emptiness, met with the fleeting thrill of escapism.

With “Silver Star” following, this track offers a more contemplative counterpoint. With ethereal tones and wistful lyrics, it creates an almost celestial-like atmosphere. With moments of quiet reflection, this piece is a beautiful contrast from the more energetic moments the EP brings.

Leaning into vulnerability, we have “NYD.” With lyrics like “Time slipping right through it, time I’m always losing you,” the song captures the feeling of loss and the frustration of unresolved connection. The layered melodies and brooding rhythm enhance the song’s reflective tone, with striking sonic intensity that lingers long after the track ends.

The finale, “Dove Dreams,” ties the EP together with a bittersweet closure. Its lush harmonies feel like morning light creeping in—both grounding and cathartic. The lyrics run parallel with the theme of confronting life’s limitations and unresolved emotions. In just four tracks, Angel Dust encapsulates Glosser’s unique ability to blend vibrant pop with profound emotional depth.
