Haley Heynderickx is a very peaceful, simple, and enchanted storyteller. In her third studio album, Seed of a Seed, Heynderickx showcases her artistry and vision with her sweet, soft voice and calming production.
On “Gemini,” Heynderickx is getting her words out so fast that they are spilling out of her mouth, leaving the production behind to catch up to her and her story. Once the production races to catch up, everything slows. Eventually, everything and everyone is in unison, and the story of Seed of a Seed is about to begin.
Heynderickx is a woman of simplicity and nature. Combining these two ideas, “Seed of a Seed” is a very simple song with a very strong message: “Well, did my parents know better? No, but they tried.” These lyrics hold a lot and can be interpreted by each listener, how they were raised, how their parents were raised, and all the way up the tree.
The introduction to “Redwoods (Anxious God)” gives the illusion that you are at a water spring, hearing the wind and sounds of nature all around you. “Well, I couldn’t believe what the water had told me that man and plant used to talk.” Heynderickx is painting a picture of symphony and love with humans and the world around us. This beautifully painted picture combines wondrous thoughts and a sorrowful message about today’s world.
“Swoop” is Heynderickx coming to a close and rediscovering herself at the album’s end. With a powerful production of symphonic sounds, mysterious bass, and echos behind her, this song grows and shows how she has grown throughout the album.
Seed of a Seed is an album about growth and finding of one’s self. Heynderickx is true to herself and her story in an inspiring way. In a very artistic way, this album feels as if Haley Heynderickx is reading from a storybook with pop-up pages. Each song is a new pop-up land and tale that takes listeners through the journey she wants us to discover with her.
