Bishop Briggs hosted their album release party for their new album ‘Tell My Therapist I’m Fine’ at the iconic Troubadour in West Hollywood. The intimate two story location was filled wall to wall with fans and music enthusiasts as Briggs and her band came out on stage with a flash of red light. The night felt like a halloween house party and some in attendance came dressed for the occasion dressed as Beetlejuice and someone in full hot dog costume. The band themselves were dressed as nurses and doctors with handprints and blood splatters on their costumes.
Singer songwriter Bishop Briggs kept the crowd locked in with her strong vocals and high energy throughout the set. The new album ‘Tell My Therapist I’m Fine’ has a mix of upbeat headbangers and some more sentimental slower songs. She definitely stays within the alternative range with ‘Not A Machine’, ‘Mona Lisa On A Mattress’ and ‘Isolated Love’ which features Travis Barker on the album. There are songs like ‘Growing Pains’ that have a near country feel.
Briggs ability to run and jump around the stage as she’s singing her heart was both impressive and captivating. In between each song she took the time to share at what point in her life she was during the writing and creating process. She painted a picture and kept the album release performance very intimate. “Thank you for making a safe space for me” she said as she continued to share.
Briggs referred to the Barbie movie as an inspiration, specifically the award winning America Ferrera monologue that resonated with many women. “I feel like there’s been these conversations,” said Briggs, “that we’ve had not only as women [but] as humans as people that are experiencing Earth at the same time where we are feeling like, I’m not a machine.” A smooth transition to new song ‘Not A Machine’ which she claimed to have “written in a fit of rage after the Barbie movie.“
There were multiple laughs throughout the night as Briggs spoke with her audience making jokes and shedding tears. Once the album was released to the public mid show she paused and said “If you have a glass shall we raise it?” sharing the celebration with everyone. Briggs closed the show with her fan favorite song ‘River’ that had the crowd singing with her.
