Iconic 70s new-wave post-punk band B-52s is going on a six-night tour. Their second performance will be at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre on Nov. 2.
The B-52s’ music career started in 1976 with the band’s formation. The original lineup consisted of Fred Schneider on vocals, Kate Pierson on vocals, keyboard, and synth bass, Cindy Wilson on vocals and percussion, Ricky Wilson on guitar, and Keith Strickland on drums, guitar, and keyboards.
However, in 1985, Wilson passed away, and Strickland switched from drums to lead guitar permanently. The band has not added any permanent members since the passing but will add musicians to the band for live performances and recording sessions.
This band is known for songs like “Rock Lobster,” “Love Shack,” and “Roam.” They have released seven albums, three compilation mixes, four singles, and two EPs. They have been nominated for three Grammys and have received several accolades for their contribution to the music industry.
They have cultivated a sound that has not been replicated since. They took inspiration from 1950s and 1960s pop sources, rock and roll, and even trash culture.
Currently, the band has a three-day residency in Las Vegas and will play there from Nov. 13-16.
The B-52s will be in Chicago on Nov. 2 with a performance at the Riviera Theatre. Tickets can be purchased now through AXS AXS.com.
