Avant-pop star Elke, otherwise known as Kayla Graningeris, has returned with a brand new single “Hide In Heaven” which is powerfully individualistic and undeniably vivid. The track marks the latest release from her forthcoming sophomore studio album Divine Urge which is set to arrive on October 25 via Congrats Records.
Speaking on the lyrical inspiration behind the song, Graningeris offered, “I was on a mushroom trip years ago that taught me about my instinct to run away from people even if they aren’t dangerous. But people eventually stop looking for you, and that I needed to face.”
“Hide In Heaven” follows previously shared singles “Insect Song” featuring Carter Ace and “Enchanté,” the latter one arriving alongside an accompanying music video directed by Bérénice Bear Eveno and produced by Quinlyn Uysses. Graningeris is set to release a companion book consisting of poetry on the same day as Divine Urge aptly titled Divine Digest. The written collection reflects on the natural world, free-spiritedness and feeling liberated, freeing oneself from societal expectations.
The album was co-produced by Graningeris and Jake McMullen and features Zac Farro of Paramore on drums. Sonically, the record pulls from a plethora of influences across the genre spectrum including 2000s pop, classic doo wop and progressive rock.
Reflecting on the album creation process, Graningeris explained, “This record is so huge for me because in making it, I defined myself as a whole person, when before I felt like a million scattered pieces. I used to get a sinking feeling in my stomach from not having a reference in the world to know that what I was doing was ‘safe.’ Now that I know myself more, that feeling ignites me.”
