Billy Bragg: The Roaring Forty USA Tour at The Vic Theatre on Oct. 7

In recognition of forty years of music, Billy Bragg began his tour on Sept. 26, 2024. He is set to stop in Chicago for a performance at The Vic Theatre on Oct. 7. He will be joined by Canadian singer and songwriter Steven Page.

Forty years ago, Bragg released his first record, Brewing Up With (1983). He created a monumental moment in which he continued a long trend of activism through music. He is a pioneer in the genre known as folk-punk.

He created the punk band Riff Raff with Wiggy. His beginning years of music were influenced by bands like The Clash, The Jam, and even Elvis Costello. Bragg, alongside Wilco, created music in which they took Woody Guthrie’s lyrics and put them into contemporary music.

Through the years, he took a turn in his music and began making protest songs that were left-leaning and dealt with social change. He is known for not only being a talented musician but an activist as well.

Since 1984, he has released twelve albums, 13 singles, and 4 EPs. He has also released remastering of his albums alongside live albums, greatest hits, and deluxe editions. His most recent work is a compilation album entitled The Roaring Forty (1983-2024) [deluxe edition], which he released in 2023 in preparation for this tour.
