Album Review: Kacey Musgraves – Deeper Into The Well

Kacey Musgraves came out with Deeper Well in March of 2024, she has now released Deeper Into The Well, adding seven songs. This deluxe version of the album has a more energetic sound.

At the end of Deeper Well on “Nothing to be Scared Of” Musgraves sang “Come to me and drop your bags and I’ll help you unpack them / I’ll come to you and drop my bags and you’ll help me unpack them.” This ties in perfectly with the message of “Ruthless” the first track on Deeper Into The Well. Musgraves is singing about how she would do anything, even go against her morals “I’m a lover, not a fighter but if anyone tried to hurt you I would be ruthless” further expanding on how she would do anything to help this person and how deep in this relationship she is.

“Flower Child” is a beach vibe with an electric guitar riff that, in addition to the flute, continues to elevate the mood of this song from start to finish. This song is giving a sense of freedom, being content in who one is and how life is around the flower child. This track connects the beauty of the world to “The Architect” from Deeper Well, being about a sense of appreciation, she had to go through “The Architect” to get to “Flower Child.”

Showing life and jumps in her voice on “Superbloom (feat. Leon Bridges),” Musgraves sings about someone who can help her “feel the energy underneath the ground” and bring her back to life. This song has an energetic light beat going along with the meaning of her words.

The final track, “Arm’s Length,” goes back to Musgraves’ slower, more nostalgic elements. “You promised me a castle, but all you built were walls / I couldn’t love you into lovin’ me” strips down the feeling of giving everything and thinking that everything is being returned, but something is just not enough. The production picks up adding more instrumentation midway through the song as her thoughts get more intense.

Deeper Into The Well is a perfect way to expand Deeper Well. Musgraves shows growth and as always, opens up to her listeners, expressing everything she feels. She leaves listeners feeling as if they understand her deeper and can relate as she brings different emotions into each song.
