Dawn Richard and Spencer Zahn at the Old Town School of Folk Music on Oct. 24

Dawn Richard and Spencer Zahn take the stage at the Old Town School of Folk Music on Oct.24, 2024. The concert will be held at the Gary and Laura Maurer stage.

Richard and Zahn got their start working together in 2022 with the release of their first collaborative album, Pigments. This album is full of illustrious instrumentals and otherworldly sounds. According to a review done by Pitchfork “Pigments takes this evolution a step further, transforming Richard’s voice into a luminescent mist”, and I couldn’t agree more.

Richards is an artist from New Orleans, Louisiana. Her career took off after she auditioned for MTV’s Making the Band 3 in 2004 and from that came the band Danity Kane. Richard’s also, more recently, collaborated with Kaytranda on his 2023 album, Timeless.

Zahn on the other hand is a composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. He started playing bass at the age of 12 and has been playing music ever since.

When Richards and Zahn come together to make music, it is ethereal. They make music that twinkles like a single burning light in an otherwise dark room. After Pigments (2022) was released, they began working on their next album Quiet In a World Full of Noise (2024).

The music they make together is the kind that only comes around once in a blue moon. They blend effortlessly.

Dawn Richards and Spencer Zahn reunite for their concert in Chicago. The show is being held at The Old Town School of Folk Music on Oct. 24. This is a go-see performance. Tickets can be purchased directly through the venue’s website oldtownschool.org
