Donald Glover, American actor, rapper, singer, writer, comedian, director, & producer, is set to play his last tour as Childish Gambino. With WILLOW as his opening act, The New World Tour kicked off in Oklahoma City on August 11th. WILLOW’s most recent album, Empathogen, comes after publishing her debut historic novel, and offers a new R&B sound with hints of jazz added to her ethereal lyricism. Glover has enhanced this tour with several different cutting edge technological advancements that he says are influenced by the concerts in anime shows he used to watch as a kid. In one of his recent instagram posts, he shared, “as the technology gets better, i’m sure this will be live show staple. and for anyone that wants the tech, hit me and I’ll share it. thanks, and see u on tour.” The setlist of the show involves songs from his newest album, Bando Stone and The New World and also features well known songs from the group that have never been performed live. In an apple music interview with Zane Lowe, Glover told Lowe, “If this live show isn’t the best live show you’ve ever seen by the first song, you can have your money back. This album was made like, ‘Yeah, let’s have a big old party.” There’s no doubt that Childish Gambino and WILLOW will make the show at Barclays, one to remember and one to learn and evolve from. Both artists’ creative talents are unpredictable, yet supplemental to the future art of our culture and generation.
