After 40 years of music, Sepultura has announced an 18-month farewell tour. Chicago is the first stop on the North American leg of the tour on Sep. 17 at Concord Music Hall.
This Brazilian heavy-metal band was formed in Belo Horizonte, Brazil in 1984 by brothers Max and Igor Cavelera. They were pivotal in the Brazilian groove metal, thrash metal, and death metal scene. The band has had many members including vocalist Derrick Green, who replaced Max in 1997, bassist Paulo Jr., guitarist Andreas Kisser, and drummer Greyson Nekrutman, a new addition to the band as of 2024.
Sepultura has released almost 20 albums in their four decades on the stage. Schizophrenia (1987) and Roots (1996), are two of their most popular albums. Schizophrenia, their second studio album is what put them on the map. This record leaned deeply into a heavy metal sound and was recognized in large numbers in Europe and America.
The band, based mainly on the metal persuasion, experimented a lot with each album. On their sixth studio record, Roots (1996), the band started incorporating music from Brazil’s Indigenous people and slowed their tempo down.
