Amber Mary Bain, indie pop musician from Buckinghamshire, set the ambience at Rooftop Pier 17 this past Saturday. The 29 year old synthesizer, keyboardist, and guitarist took the crowd through a whirlwind of emotions and thoughts. She pieced together some of her best lyrical work along with smooth yet elevated sounds. This tour comes after Bain’s second studio album In the End it Always Does. According to Pitchfork, Bain had strong collaborations with George Daniel, the drummer and producer of The 1975, and Chloe Kraemer, the engineer and producer known for her work with Glass Animals. The Japanese House also features artists like Charli XCX, Matty Healy, and members from both Muna and Bon Iver. The album focused on lots of heartache, but brought a sound to the material that transcended the somber words with sounds of optimism, relief, and some seriously good pop music. The Rooftop at Pier 17 offered a perfectly intimate and authentic set for The Japanese House.
