Album Review: Kerry King – From Hell I Rise

This album brings insane music.

Kerry King is widely known for being a part of the metal band Slayer and now, the artist has released his solo album, From Hell I Rise, where each track is filled with blazing instrumentation and a soul shaking vocal performance. From Hell I Rise is a face smacking album from a talented musician who knows how to dazzle people’s minds with fabulous metal music.

Starting things off is “Diablo,” the whole composition is a showcase of each guitarist, giving them ample chance to show off their skills. Right off the bat, the sounds of sizzling guitar riffs can be heard shaking the background with great authority. Another great part about “Diablo” is hearing a bittersweet guitar solo blazing the atmosphere with amazing notes that blend in with the wicked theme.

“Crucifixion” is a vein jolting piece that resembles the music style of Slayer thanks to the rapid instrumentation playing, but what truly shines on this ditty is the powerful vocal performance. As a whole, the vocalist does a great job of expressing his bold feelings while shouting and passionately shrieking out the lyrics. The vocal style alone will cause some people to headbang while “Crucifixion” is blaring from their speakers.

“Toxic” talks about how toxic our society has become due to politics, violence and letting other people’s opinions get too involved with how one should live in this world. The lyrics “Too many people / Spend too much time / Forcing their opinions / On other people’s lives” imply how some people in society are forcing others to follow their opinions, regardless of how they truly feel about the situation. The words in “Toxic” exemplify how negative and depressing our society has become.

The title track ends things on a high note, the instrumentation and vocal performance bringing a solid metal musical vibe. While listening, the sound of the crushing guitar playing and thunderous drum beats contributes to the endless madness as the vocal performance rages war with high pitched yelling. “From Hell I Rise” is a monstrous composition that consists of smashing metal music.

From Hell I Rise is a record that captures how King is capable of creating jaw dropping music outside of Slayer and surely the artist will have a lot of metalheads mosh pitting during a live performance of his latest music.
