Missy Elliott at Oakland Arena on July 9

Legendary figure in hip hop and R&B, Missy Elliott, has announced a North American arena tour alongside Busta Rhymes, Ciara, and Timbaland! She will be making a stop at Oakland Arena on July 9.

Melissa Arnette “Missy” Elliott began her career as a member of R&B girl group Sista and eventually moved on to working as a songwriter for other successful acts like Aaliyah, 702, and Total. Elliott released her debut solo ablum, Supa Dupa Fly, in 1997. The project officially brought her into the mainstream, being well received commercially and spawning a Billboard 200 hit with the song, “Sock It 2 Me.” Across her lengthy career, Elliott has only released a total of six studio albums, the most recent of which being 2005’s The Cookbook.

Elliott has produced a number of massively successful singles including “All n My Grill” and “Hot Boyz” which broke a 19-year record for most weeks spent at number one on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart. Her legacy has been honored in many ways including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a spot as the first woman rapper inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
