For the first time ever, an after-dark concert will take place at Golden Gate Park with headliners System of a Down and Deftones, featuring special guests The Mars Volta, Viagra Boys, and Vowws! The one night event will take place on August 17.
One of the most influential rock groups of the last 30 years, Glendale’s very own System of a Down formed in 1994 and have produced hits like “Chop Suey” and “Aerials” off their landmark 2001 album, Toxicity. They are lead vocalist Serj Tankian, lead guitarist Daron Malakian, bassist Shavo Odadjian, and drummer John Dolmayan. The band have produced five studio albums across their lenghty career the most recent of which, Hypnotize, having released in 2005, a testament to their longevity.
Co-headliner Deftones formed in Sacramento in 1988. Lead by frontman Chino Moreno, Deftones is also lead guitarist Stephen Carpenter, drummer Abe Cunningham, and keyboardist Frank Delgado. The group is renowned for their creative mix of metal, dream pop, trip-hop, and psychedelic music. Deftones have produced nine studio albums including classics like Around the Fur, White Pony, and Diamond Eyes.
The two legendary bands will be joined by progressive rock pioneers The Mars Volta, Swedish punk newcomers Viagra boys, and Australian industrial rock duo Vowws.
