The Pretenders at The Masonic on August 13

British-Ameircan rock group, The Pretenders, have announced a summer 2024 US tour of the heals of their latest album, Relentless! They will be making a stop in San Francisco at The Masonic on August 13!

The Pretenders formed in Hereford, England in March 1978. They are lead vocalist Chrissy Hynde, drummer Martin Chambers, bassist Nick Wilkinson, lead guitarist James Walbourne, pedal steel guitarist Eric Heywood, and keyboardist Carwyn Ellis. The band began their career with a set of hit singles including a cover of The Kinks’ song, “Stop Your Sobbing.” The Pretenders would release they debut self-titled album in 1980 to commercial and critical success in the US and UK. The group released Prentender II in 1981 and was forced to regroup over the following years due to the deaths of many key original members.

The newly reformed Pretenders went on to release 10 more studio albums in the span of 40 years. Their most recent project, Relentless, dropped in September 2023. The band’s legacy can be largely attributed to the success of their early work and some popular singles throughout the 1980s. The group was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.
