Cigarettes After Sex are coming to Philly! Cigarettes After Sex is an American band, mostly categorized as dream pop or slowcore, formed in El Paso, Texas in 2008. The band was the brainchild of Greg Gonzalez, who named the band after a friend with “certain benefits” that would often smoke a cigarette after they were together. Other current members included Jacob Tomsky (drums) and Randall Miller (bass). Greg Gonzalez is on lead vocals, electric guitar, and acoustic guitar.
The band’s debut EP I. gained relative commercial success with their sleeper hit single “Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby” in 2012. The band eventually released a self-titled debut album in 2017 with extremely positive reviews and songs that gained success like “K.” and “Apocalypse.” “Apocalypse” currently has over 1 billion streams on Spotify. The band went on to release their second studio album Cry in 2019.
This year, the band has announced their third studio album X’s which is scheduled to release on July 12, 2024. They have released the first single on the album, “Tejano Blue,” with positive reviews and high anticipation for their new music. To celebrate the new album, Cigarettes After Sex is going on tour from the end of August to the end of November, spanning from the U.S. to Canada to Mexico to Europe.
