Critically acclaimed rapper and song-writer, Benny the Butcher, has announced the Everybody Can’t Go Tour in support of his brand new album of the same name. He will be making a stop at August Hall on May 17.
Jeremie Damon Pennick, professionally known as Benny the Butcher or just ‘Benny’, is best known for his work as a member of the independent hip-hop record label and collective, Griselda. Benny grew up in Buffalo, New York and began putting out music through a series of mixtapes in 2004 and 2005. His artistic output took a major shift following the murder of his older brother and fellow rapper, Machine Gun Blak, in 2006. Benny would begin to put out music and an increasingly significant rate in the years following his brother’s death, putting out 12 mixtapes in the span of six years.
After the formation of Griselda in 2014, Benny would go through a stylistic shift and begin utilizing more in-house beats as opposed to beats from other artists and more popular production tactics. This proved successful as him and the rest of Griselda would begin receiving mainstream attention in the years following. Benny released his debut album, Tana Talk 3, in November 2018. He would follow it up with Burden of Proof in October 2020, Tana Talk 4 in March 2022, and most recently Everybody Can’t Go in January 2024. Bigger than ever, Benny the Butcher’s boom-bap sound and distinctive rapping style have grabbed the attention of both fans and critics.
