Sophie Ellis-Bextor at August Hall on May 3

English disco revivalist, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, has announced a new set of North American dates on her expansive Kitchen Disco Tour! She will be making a stop in San Francisco at August Hall on May 3.

The “Murder on the Dancefloor” singer-songwriter was born in 1979 to two entertainment industry residents. She began her professional music career in 1996 as the lead singer for indie pop band, Theaudience. The group was only active for three years but saw relative success in the UK, achieving a number of Top 40 hits and well liked debut self-titled album.

After Theaudience disbanded, Ellis-Bextor put all of her energy towards her solo musical project. Her debut album, Read My Lips, was released in 2001 and contained singles, “Murder on the Dancefloor” as well as her cover of Cher’s “Take Me Home.” Both singles charted highly and the formed became Europe’s most played song of 2002.

Since then, Ellis-Bextor has released six studio albums, the most recent of which, Hana, arrived last year. Ellis-Bextor has become the mom to five sons and occasionally dabbled in acting. She’s toured the world many times over and won numerous awards for her music. “Murder on the Dancefloor” saw an insurgence in popularity last year due to its inclusion in Emerald Fennell’s hit film, Saltburn. The world has since turned their eyes back towards Ellis-Bextor who has a number of tour dates lined up for this year and has announced she is working on a new album.
