Bikini Kill at The Warfield on August 18 & 19

Girl punk pioneers, Bikini Kill, have announced a summer 2024 North American Tour! The trio will be making a two-night stop in San Francisco at The Warfield on August 18 and 19.

Forming in October 1990 in Olympia, Washington, at the heart of the riot grrl movement, Bikini Kill is comprised of lead vocalist Kathleen Hanna, bassist Kathi Wilcox, and drummer Tobi Vail. They were originally active from 1990-1997, releasing four studio albums and a number of EPs during the time. They took a lengthy hiatus as a band until reuniting for a one off show in 2017 and then again permanently in 2019. Original guitarist Billy Karren has not been active with the band since their initial break-up.

Despite garnering massive amounts of respect and praise post-initial run, members of Bikini Kill have mostly rejected the riot grrl label due to the hardships they endured under that categorization during the 1990s. A new generation of fans have adopted Bikini Kill’s music, especially with punk music making a comeback in recent years. Despite all of the new love, the band has gone on record to state they have no intentions of releasing new material. They’ve toured consistently since reforming nearly five years ago and 2024 looks to be a continuation of this trend.
