Band brings ear bleeding noise
Virginia based death metal band At The Plates have been causing havoc in the music industry since 2018 and earlier this year the band released the album Omnivore. For those who love screaming and vein jolting music, each track features stunning instrumentation filling the atmosphere with face smacking sound while the vocal performance serenades the ears with powerful vocal performances. Omnivore shows how At The Plates can still perform quality death metal music.
Starting things off is “With Their Cutlets, He’ll Marinate” is a dooming piece that brings a strong sense of danger, the instrumentation creating a soul shattering vibe causeing some listeners to head bang while the music blares from their headphones. “With Their Cutlets, He’ll Marinate” is death metal at its finest thanks to At The Plates’s musical talent as a band.
“Punish My Waistline” is a killer composition with relatable lyrics. The lines “Punish my waistline/ Can’t wear these jeans anymore/ We’re sticking now to sweatpants/ Until I feast no more” describes the change some experience due to the lingering negativity that constantly surrounds their lives. The lyrics of At The Plates’s “Punish My Waistline” brings realism to the album, the band are speaking for those who are unable to speak for themselves.
“Roastwell 47” is another chaotic piece, the guitar playing from Tony Rouse and Tyler McCarthy truly shining. While listening, the heavy noises from the lead and bass guitar can be heard shaking the background with great power, the best part is hearing the sizzling guitar solo shaking things up with eye catching riffs.
Closing Omnivore with a bang is “Northern Frites,” this number showcases Mario Alejandro’s vocal performance dazzling the mind with his powerful vocal tones. Throughout the whole tune, Alejandro’s deep and sinister vocals bring a creepy and dooming feeling of danger, the singer’s raspy voice adding a demonic feeling while the rest of the band performs harmonic metal.
Omnivore is a lovely death metal album that displays how much At The Plates’s have grown musically as a band. The surging sound of the instrumentation and vocal performance brings the perspective of how death metal can still thrive in today’s music world.
