Sarah McLachlan at the Greek Theater on May 30

Canadian singer-songwriter, Sarah McLachlan, has announced a set of shows in celebration of the 30 year anniversary of her album, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy. She will be making a stop in Berkeley at the Greek Theater on May 30.

McLachlan is best known for her song, Angel, as well as her philanthropy, having worked with organizations like ASPCA, performing in various charitable relief concerts, and starting the Sarah McLachlan School of Music in Vancouver. McLachlan has released a total of nine studio albums, including two Christmas albums, since making her debut in 1987.

Her third project, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, released in 1993, and was her international breakthrough. The album sold 2.8 million copies in the US by 2003 and ranked number 115 on Pitchfork’s list of the “150 Best Albums of the 1990s.” The success from Fumbling Towards Ecstasy propelled McLachlan into international stardom, paving the way for the success of songs like Angel and its subsequent album, Surfacing.

McLachlan is a rare case of a musician whose impact transcends their music. As the founder of Lilith Fair, McLachlan successfully created a space to highlight female musicians through a traveling concert series throughout Canada in the late 1990s.
