Photo Review: Queens of the Stone Age at Kia Forum

Queens of the Stone Age concluded their U.S. tour, The End Is Nero, with a textbook rock ‘n’ roll, guitar-swinging, pit-whirling performance at Kia Forum. The evening kicked off with an invitation to the outdoor Queens Colosseum pre-show party, where the venue transformed into a playground of creativity. Guests could play carnival games for prizes, screen print their own bootleg merch, or even get a flash tattoo. The entertainment was stacked with live music and a burlesque show. Some chose to take part in a tarot reading, while others posed for photos with Black Metal Santa. In the spirit of giving, the event also featured a Toys for Tots collection, inviting guests to contribute holiday gifts for donation.

QOTSA showcased musical conviction by kicking off their set with one of their most recognizable hits “No One Knows.” It’s rare to see a group lead with a top performing track, but when done properly, it can result in a direct energy surge. After a few songs, Homme greeted the audience lightheartedly, then encouraged everybody to “cut loose.” The crowd was pumped, and the band’s verve had a boomerang effect, flowing through the arena and back to the stage.

The concert featured songs from their latest album, In Times New Roman…, which also marked a return to their signature sound. Between guitar thrashing and an unexpected drum solo, it became incredibly clear that QOTSA’s current lineup has a pronounced charisma. There is always a distinct charm associated with The Forum; however, witnessing this exceptional musical ensemble for the first time within its confines made for a killer evening.
