Album Review: Dying Wish – Symptoms Of Survival

American metalcore band Dying Wish has been dazzling people’s minds with their music since 2016 and last month they released their album Symptoms Of Survival. Each track is filled with face smacking instrumentation and a killer vocal performance leaving the audience head banging as the music leaves their speakers. Symptoms Of Survival shows how much Dying Wish has musically grown as a band.

Starting things off is the self-titled song “Symptoms Of Survival.” What really stands out in the composition is the universality in the lyrics, how people who are struggling in society and the world can find something to relate to the lyrics. The words “They move with wicked intention / To pollute our minds / sedate our senses / Scarred by society” mentions the struggle of the traumatizing events that have been going on around the world. The lyrics in “Symptoms Of Survival” show the perspective of people who are having trouble adjusting to the constant negativity surrounding them daily.

“Path To Your Grave” is a sinister composition featuring killer instrumentation that contributes to the endless insanity. While listening, the sound of fast paced drumming welcomes listeners to Dying Wish’s dark world where the vein jolting guitar playing rages war in the background with heavy metal and harmonic riffs. The song’s instrumentation blends heavy and light noises together, which compliments the serious theme.

“Kiss of Judas” is a banger that features a powerful vocal performance from Emma Boster. Right off the bat, powerful screaming can be heard filling the atmosphere with pure rage that displays how angry Boster is at the world. Along with the soul shattering instrumentation, the singer’s authoritative vocal tones speak to the song’s deep meaning. Each scream captures how dark the world has become due to the constant negativity that surrounds people.

“Torn From Your Silhouette” shows how musically strong Dying Wish is as a band. Altogether, the instrumentation brings a heavy dose of metalcore and thrash metal with the guitar electrifying the atmosphere with righteous riffs, while the drum smacks the background with thunderous beats. Other than the captivating instrumentation, Boster’s vocals are a force on the track. Not only does she scream out the words, the vocalist grumbles out loud as well.

Symptoms Of Survival is a thrilling album that demonstrates how metalcore can survive in today’s music world. Surely, Dying Wish will blow the minds of those who are listening to the album as well.
