Album Review: Bad Wolves — Die About It

Die About It opens up with subtle vocals and delicate instrumentals, never overpowering the song’s poignancy. Yet, the instrumentals still wield undeniable power.

Until distortion slices through the air.

Jarring sounds command attention while guttural growls replace the otherwise haunting hymnal. But, even through the high-octane instrumentals, there is still an infectious melody that simply can’t be suppressed. Most bands — specifically, their albums — know how to capture a single sound. But Die About It knows how to blend purpose with power, delivering artfully crafted music that leaves listeners wanting more, “Bad Friend” is a perfect example.

“Die About It,” the title track, is equally haunting, opening with deliberate power chords, free-styling, and some snarling vocals that manage to blend seamlessly amidst a harmonizing chorus.

As the album progresses, “Hungry For Life” offers a glimpse into the band’s lighter side, although a heavier sound is on the horizon. Regardless of the direction Bad Wolves take, one thing remains the same: the talent. In a day and age where it feels as if every band has a gimmick, a trick, or a sound they refuse to relinquish, it’s incredibly refreshing to encounter musicians who are willing — and able to — experiment with a variety of sounds. From that, a new kind of talent emerges — one that refuses to cater to the masses but simply works to satiate the beast within.

Aside from addictive instrumentals, Bad Wolves focus their efforts on catchy melodies and forceful lyrics. They also experiment with a variety of instruments, a saxophone ringing loud and clear around the four-minute mark of “NDA.” They also hover in minor chord territory, which automatically lends their music an emotive quality.

It’s easy to say that Bad Wolves has delivered an album that offers something for everyone. Die About It is raw, entertaining and showcases a wide range of talent, making it worthy of any playlist. Whatever mood listeners are in, Bad Wolves offers up a soundtrack to satisfy.
