Scottish indie pop band, Belle and Sebastian, have announced a spring 2024 North American tour that includes a stop at the Fox Theater in Oakland on May 16.
Founding members Stuart Murdoch and Stuart David met in a Stow College program for unemployed musicians in 1994, recording a number of demos that culminated in the first official Belle and Sebastian album, Tigermilk, in June 1996. The duo would expand to a larger lineup and release their critically acclaimed sophomore LP, If You’re Feeling Sinister, in November 1996.
The following years would see the band go through a number of lineup changes among the release of numerous EPs and their third album, The Boy with the Arab Strap, in 1998. In 1999, they won the BRIT award for Best Newcomer. They’ve spent the last three decades building a repertoire of well-received, unique chamber pop and indie music. The band has released 12 albums in total and contributed to numerous soundtracks for films like Juno and The Power of Nightmares. Belle and Sebastian are Stuart Murdoch, Stevie Jackson, Sarah Martin, Chris Geddes, Richard Colburn, Bobby Kildea, and Dave McGowen.
