Sleater-Kinney at The Warfield on March 30

Critically acclaimed rock band, Sleater-Kinney has announced a tour in support of their upcoming album, Little Rope. The group is making a stop in San Francisco at The Warfield on March 30.

Formed in 1994 in Olympia Washington, Sleater-Kinney started out as the side project of original members Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein. The band gained notoriety in the Olympia underground with a distinctive sound that put them at the forefront of the riot grrrl movement in the mid-90s. Their self titled debut and subsequent albums, Call the Doctor and Dig Me Out brought them critical acclaim later in the decade.

Their sixth album, One Beat, released in 2005, brought Sleater-Kinney to the mainstream. The album peaked at number 107 on the Billboard 200 and number five on the Billboard Top Independent Albums. The band disbanded in 2006 so members could focus on independent projects but reunited in 2014 and released their eighth studio album, No Cities To Hold, the following year. Since then, the band has been sparse but intentional in releasing music, dropping their St. Vincent produced ninth album, The Center Won’t Hold, in 2019 and their first self-produced album, Path of Wellness, in 2021.

The duo is scheduled to released their eleventh studio album, Little Rope, on January 24.

Sleater-Kinney has been praised for their powerful vocal delivery and progressive politics. Their lyrics often focus on feminist ideologies, dismantling gender norms, being anti-war and anti-consumerism — all without sacrificing an emphasis on personal topics. Tom Breihan of Stereogum called them the greatest rock band of the last two decades in 2015 and critic Greil Marcus crowned them the greatest rock band of 2001.
