Singer-songwriter Cat Powers has just announced an upcoming Valentines Day performance at Carnegie Hall in New York. The show will be a recreation of Bob Dylan’s 1966 acoustic and electric performance at Royal Albert Hall. The 15-song performance is a companion to her album Cat Powers Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert–to be released November 10.
In celebration of the performance, Powers will be releasing two additional songs with the album: “Mr.Tamborine Man” and “Like A Rolling Stone”. Cat Powers Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert is available for pre-order now.
Dylan gave a legendary performance at the Manchester Free Trade Hall, commonly known as the Royal Albert Hall Concert, back in May 1966. The folk and rock artist lured his audience in by switching from acoustic to electric halfway through his performance. His influence has left a great imprint on the history of music where Powers, otherwise known as Chan Marshall, hopes to bring a new vitality to his classic songs by honoring his emblematic stature.
According to Stereogum, Marshall shared, “More than the work of any other song writer, Dylan’s songs have spoken to me and inspired me, since I first began hearing them at 5 years old.”
In support of her album’s release, the singer-songwriter will play three sold-out West coast performances in November at Los Angeles’ Troubadour and Palace Theater. The upcoming performances will mark the first time the album will be played live in the U.S. after its live debut at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
