Avantgarde metal trio Imperial Triumphant has dropped a new single via Century Media Records, a cover of Metallica’s “Motorbreath.” The fourth in a series of covers, “Motorbreath” can be heard below.
Steve Blanco (bass) comments: “As a Metal band, only a fool would believe we aren’t influenced by Metallica. Many miles and hours traversing the Northern Hemisphere have we listened to the live & studio Metallica greatness from the 1980s and 1990s, and so have we decided to pay homage with a nostalgic cover from that earliest album recorded in upstate NY. Play it loud because Metal is the law.”
Imperial Triumphant’s “Motorbreath” begins with an extended instrumental. It’s worth noting that this cover is two minutes longer than the original. After a minute, the lyrics start. The lyrics are overshadowed by the instruments; it’s almost as if they’re not the focal point of the song. In addition, Zachary Ilya Ezrin sings the lyrics a lot slower than the original.
After three minutes and thirty seconds, the acoustics takes full control; every instrument bands together to create a chaotic mixture of sound, and then it all calms down. It all goes near silent after four minutes. One big difference between this cover and the original is that Ezrin does not sing the third verse. “Those people who tell you not to take chances // They are all missing on what life’s about // You only live once, so take hold of the chance // Don’t end up like others, the same song and dance”. In addition, Ezrin does not repeat the last chorus. “Motorbreath, it’s how I live my life // I can’t take it any other way // Motorbreath, the sign of living fast // It is going to take your breath away”.
