On July 27, the Toyota Music Factory was filled to capacity with pop punk fans as Yellowcard’s Ocean Avenue 20 Year Anniversary Tour made its stop in Irving, TX. The tour was supported by some amazing artists such as Mayday Parade, Anberlin and This Wild Life – it was a night to remember.
The opener was This Wild Life, their melodic music filled the 6,000 capacity venue, keeping the fans drawn in and maybe distract a little from the 100+ temps!
Up next was Anberlin, who, before even hitting the stage, had the crowd on their feet! And the fans were in for a surprise, unfortunately lead singer Stephen Christian was unable to be there but the band was supported by Matty Mullins (of Memphis May Fire), who fit into the lead role like a pro! They sang all the classics with amazing enthusiasm and had the crowd cheering!
As the sun began to set the next artist, Mayday Parade, geared up to take the stage. The set was an amazing blend of their new and classic songs and lead singer Derek Sanders delivered an electrifying performance. The band is known for their emotional and heartfelt performances and this was nothing short of amazing. To top it off, during their set there was even a proposal!
And last but not least, the band everyone was waiting for was about to take the stage and the anticipation of the crowd was palpable, they were on their feet even before they took the stage! Right before the band took the stage the nostalgic sound of a radio tuning filled the venue and instantly transporting concertgoers to 20 years ago. Finally the band took the stage and the crowd went WILD! The almost 2 hour set featured an amazing blend of all their fan favorites as well as some of their later songs; the crowd sang every song.
Midway through the set lead singer Ryan Key took a moment to just acknowledge the crowd, letting them know this was their biggest Dallas show they have ever had. Also showing immense gratitude for all the fans there, new and old. The audience could feel the emotion from him and his gratitude, making everyone emotional as well. They even called out Mayday Parade’s lead singer Derek Sanders out to thank him personally for his support and leading into the song “Back Home,” to which he said the fans were his home. It was a night of celebration and one to be remembered!
