Royksopp at Concord Music Hall on September 28th

Electronic duo Röyksopp is embarking on their latest North American tour starting this September 21 in San Francisco. The “True Electric” Tour will hit Chicago on September 28 at Concord Music Hall. This tour comes after the pair’s 2022 album Profound Mysteries and its subsequent collections of remixes.

Röyksopp is composed of Svein Berge and Torbjorn Brundtland, who met when they were just 12 and 12 in Norway. The pair bonded over shared interests in movies and music, especially electronica. They eventually formed Röyksopp in 1998, naming it after the Norwegian puffball mushroom, or the mushroom cloud from an atomic bomb. The duo released their first studio album, Melody A.M, in 2001 to roaring success, bolstered by their memorable music videos which were favorites on MTV.

Since the release of their first album, the duo has released seven more studio albums and settled into the musical style. The band is known for combining house music and Afro-American influences, as well as incorporating the vocals from various singers, including Annali Drecker and Karin Dreijer. Their music is influenced by local Norwegian artists, as well as other famous European electronica acts, like Kratrock and Tangerine Dream. Röyksopp also mixes and records all of their own music.

The energy continues with Röyksopp’s live performances. On tour, the duo has become known for their eclectic costumes and visual components to go with their performances. Their latest project, three concept albums under the name Profound Mysteries, is sure to lend itself to these traditions.
