Album Review: AmongRuins – Land Of The Black Sun

A truly mind blowing release

Death metal band AmongRuins have been dazzling people’s minds with their music since 2012 and earlier this month they released their newest album Land Of The Black Sun. Each track features vein-shaking instrumentation and intense vocal performances. Land Of The Black Sun shows how powerful AmongRuins are as a band.

“End of My Fall” is a heart-stopping track that features righteous bass guitar playing from Sverd. Right off the bat, solid bass riffs can be heard shaking the background with tantalizing sound. What is most enjoyable is hearing Sverd’s solid skills remain steady throughout the entire song with each riff contributing to the lingering insanity. “End of My Fall” screams death metal thanks to Sverd’s bass guitar playing.

“Our Destructive Tide” is a spicy composition that has fantastic guitar playing from Thanos and Alex Flouros. They deliver top notch riffs that fill the air with killer sound and each guitar note brings a solid kick of harmony on this dynamic tune. “Our Destructive Tide” shows how skilled Thanos and Flouros are as musicians.

“Suffer for Credence” is a ditty that features a high quality vocal performance from Sverd. Sverd’s vocals shine brightly with each differing tone; from loud shouting expressing the strong anger he has in his heart to the soaring, intricate intervals showing how serious the lyricism (and piece as a whole) is.

Title track “Land Of The Black Sun” brings the album to an end in a different way, the instrumentation shows a softer side of AmongRuins. The guitar, keys and drum playing evokes an emotional feeling of despair and hopelessness while Sverd’s vocal performance serenades listeners’ ears with deep vocal tones. Despite its lighter tone, the instrumentation manages to bring a solid rock vibe thanks to the sizzling guitar solo. “Land Of The Black Sun” can leave listeners in tears or emotional from experiencing the powerful instrumentation and vocals.

Land Of The Black Sun is filled with mind-bending death metal and AmongRuins have done a good job with showing how passionate they are with their music.
