The Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie at The Salt Shed on September 23

Beloved rock bands The Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie have added a new Chicago date to their joint tour. After their headlining performance at Riot Fest, the bands will take the stage at The Salt Shed on September 23 for an intimate encore performance.

The joint tour, which begins in September, celebrates the 20th anniversary of The Postal Service’s album Give Up and Death Cab For Cutie’s album Transatlanticism. The tour kicks off on September 5 at The Anthem in Washington, DC. Both albums will be performed in full every night of the tour.

Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service have both been staples in the indie and alternative rock communities for decades. Death Cab For Cutie began as a solo project for Ben Gibbard, the now lead singer, and was expanded into a full band in 1997. Transatlanticism was the album that broke them into the mainstream and led them to be signed to Atlantic Records. Since then, they have released six more studio albums, with the latest being the 2022 record Asphalt Meadows.

The Postal Service is also a Ben Gibbard project, which consists of him, Jimmy Tambrollo, and Jenny Lewis. The supergroup formed in 2001 and released their first and only album, Give Up, in 2003. The album was widely successful, produced three singles, and was certified gold by the Recording Industry of America.

Pulling a double shift, Ben Gibbard is incredibly excited about the joint tour. In a press release, he said “I know for a fact I will never have a year again like 2003,” referring to the year both of the albums came out. “I’ve never had a more creatively inspired year,” he continued.
