The Clientele, the indie band from Hampshire, England, will be playing a show at The Chapel on August 20th, 2023.
Composed of singer/guitarist Alasdair MacLean, drummer Mark Keen, pianist Mel Draisey, and bassist James Hornsey, and with a new album set for release on July 28th, titled I Am Not There Anymore, the lyrical and melodic band will be gracing Valencia Street amidst their US tour this Summer.
Growing up together in Hampshire, MacLean and Hornsey began making music with each other in high school. Originally joining up with singer Innes Phillips and going by the band name The Butterfly Collectors, MacLean, Hornsey, and Keen went on to start The Clientele in 1997. A band’s band, The Clientele regularly put out brilliant records seeped in tasteful reverb, wavy guitar, subtle and pleasing drums, and MacLean’s nice voice.
Having taken a hiatus in 2011, the band got back together in 2014, and went on to put out the albums, Music for the Age of Miracles in 2017. Now with a new record on the way, and with years of experience, these music veterans continue to express themselves beautifully not only instrumentally, but also emotionally. Describing how the making of this record changed this time around, MacLean says that “What happened with this record was that we bought a computer.” The band would record takes, and then go home and each work out further sections and arrangements, rather than all trying to figure out a song’s arrangement together in studio. The new album is also more experimental than past works, says MacLean. The record sees the band working more extensively with samples and other instrumentation apart from their standard guitar, bass, drums, and keys set up.
With a vast catalogue of classic and poetic tunes, fans can expect a brilliant night at The Chapel as the band from Hampshire play their songs in the beloved venue.
