Glitterer at Beat Kitchen on July 21

Indie-rock artist Glitterer, also known as Ned Russin, kicked off his North American tour tonight in Pittsburgh, PA. This 10- stop tour comes after Glitterer’s 2021 album Life Is Not A Lesson and his latest 2022 EP, Fantasy Four. The tour will stop in Chicago on July 21 at Beat Kitchen.

A Kingston, PA native, Russin began his career in the band Title Fight with his brother. For 15 years, the band experimented with hardcore punk, shoegaze, and indie rock genres until their indefinite hiatus in 2018. Then, Russin became known as Glitterer with the release of his first EP, Not Glitterer. The project focused around themes of self-awareness and garnered attention from critics and previous fans of Russin alike. Glitterer’s first full length album, Looking Through The Shades, came out right before the COVID-19 pandemic. Russin described the project as a “musician engaging perspicuously with the world as it (then) was.”

Glitterer’s latest full length album, Life Is Not A Lesson, follows the artists trend of featuring songs that only have a playtime of around 90 seconds. To Russin, the most authentic way to make music is to compact his observations about life, the human experience and the world around him into short, rhythmic bursts. The album was inspired by a number of pieces of media including songs (“Stab” by Built to Spill), books (My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Otessa Moshfegh) and albums (Crazy For You by Best Coat). Russin is also a writer and an avid consumer of culture, both things that make his artistry that much more specific and special.
