Rock bands Clutch, Dinosaur Jr. and Red Fang are joining forces for the second leg of clutches “No Stars Above” North American Tour. The leg comes after a series of European dates and kicks off on July 21. The trio of acts will be stopping in Chicago on July 29 at Radius.

Formed in 1991, Clutch features Dan Maines on the bass, Jean-Paul Gaster on the drums, Tim Sult on the guitar, and Neil Fallon on vocals. The four met at Seneca Valley High School and began making music together. Their 1995 self-titled album broke the band into the mainstream, and defined Clutch’s ability to operate in the funk metal genre while mixing in blues rock.

Since then, Clutch has released 13 studio albums, now owning their own record label Weathermaker Music. Their most recent release is 2022’s Sunrise on Slaughter Beach. The album explores a plethora of social commentaries after the COVID-19 pandemic and received positive reviews from critics, who raved that even after 13 albums, “Clutch are still uniquely brilliant, master craftsmen.”

This summer, Clutch has set out on a three-leg tour with various genre-defining openers and supporting acts. On the second leg, they will be joined by Dinosaur Jr. and Red Fang. Dinosaur Jr. began making music in the early 80s and reformed in 2005. The band was influential in the alternative rock genres of the 90s, when Clutch came about. Red Fang was formed in 2005 and has been a staple of the stoner rock and sludge metal scenes.
